Rhonda and I are both preachers' kids, raised in small Midwest churches. Rhonda grew up in Wisconsin, and I grew up in Iowa. Rhonda's dad also worked for General Motors, and her family moved to Ft Wayne, Indiana in 1986. I moved to Ft Wayne in 1988, to serve as the Youth Director in a church there. A mutual friend hooked us up on a blind date, and - well, maybe I'll get to tell you that story sometime! It's pretty funny, actually - but it ends with us getting married in September of 1990, so all is well.
As a child, I always wanted to be a preacher. I started ministering in my dad's church when I was 16. I graduated from Texas Bible College in 1985, and spent a couple of years as an itinerate evangelist, speaking around the country. Since 1998 I have served in teaching and administrative capacities in local churches. Rhonda's love for music has allowed her to serve as music director and worship leader.
While Rhonda and I have volunteered our time to the church, both of us have worked full-time jobs. Rhonda has worked in ophthalmology, and I started an insurance agency in 1989. My insurance business did fine, but I got into computers in the early 90's, and by 1994 was full-time in computer software development. That led me to consulting, and then ultimately starting my own software business. My passion for missions led me to open an office in India, and for the past five years I have traveled to India frequently, both to work in my office and to minister.
Over the past 16 years, my wife and I have been privileged to serve in nearly every aspect of church leadership except pastoring. In 2006 the Lord led us to move to Birmingham and help out at ConnectPoint. Little did we know that within a few months we would be voted in as pastor! But we recognize God's involvement in the process, and gladly accept our role in this great adventure.
I hope that we get another opportunity to talk, because I would love to tell you about how Jesus made the difference for us - and helped us discover the Connected Life.
Are you connected? Are the pieces of your life all coming together, or do they seem to be stretching you in more directions than you care to go? Get connected- discover life!
Let us know if we can help...
