Bio
Dr. Cary Craig Moorman is a psychotherapist, specializing in Individual, Family, Couple & Adolescent Therapy, Trauma, and Crisis Intervention. He holds a Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, is a Virginia Licensed Professional Counselor, and is a certified Life Innovations Prepare/Enrich Trainer. Dr. Moorman and his wife, Dr. Adi Granit Moorman, have a private practice, Finding Solutions Counseling Centers, with offices in Fairfax and Reston, VA.
Dr. Moorman’s professional work experience is centered on adolescent and family counseling, instruction and training. He majored in education at the undergraduate level, graduating summa cum laude from Concordia College, St. Paul, MN in 1988 with B.A. in Education and a minor in Science. He then served as a teacher and principal for 7 years at the elementary and middle school level in Canada. During this time, Dr. Moorman also served as a youth summer camp director for non-profit organizations in the provinces of Manitoba and Ontario, Canada and as a domestic crises specialist for the police department in his local community. Dr. Moorman also held the position of Coordinator of Family Counseling and Enrichment for 3 years for a non-profit organization. In this position, he supervised and oversaw all outpatient counseling, support groups, and family enrichment training. Dr. Moorman completed his doctoral internship with Fairfax County, VA Juvenile and Domestic Court Family Systems Unit and then joined the Northern Virginia Counseling Group in Annandale, VA. At Northern Virginia Counseling Group he developed an outpatient practice and served as Coordinator for Sex Offender Services, Adolescent Dual Diagnosed Substance Abuse Co-Leader, and Clinical Supervisor.
Dr. Moorman has presented three papers for the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) International Conference on the topics of brief systemic therapy and prevention and has conducted Family Life Seminars throughout the North America and in Asia. He has provided numerous adolescent, family & couple wellness workshops to schools, churches, synagogues, and social service agencies. He is a co-author of two theory papers with learned societies in the areas of systemic stability and change as related to social systems and families. His most recent publication, Keeping Children Safe, was featured in the Washington Parent Magazine, February 2003. Dr. Moorman has been a guest speaker on the Fairfax County School District Cable Channel on the subject of teen depression and suicide. He has also conducted two major research projects as co-investigator in the areas of couple and family interactions with the Dr. Wendel Ray, Director of Mental Research Institute, Palo Alto, CA, and Dr. Charles Cole, University of Louisiana. Dr. Moorman’s last research project focused on how mental health symptoms can be reduced by changing the ways in which family members interact and communicate with one another. |
